Geography Club Community Garden

The UNT Geography Club kicked off the spring season with a day in the dirt! The Bryan Street Community Garden provided geography undergraduate students with an opportunity to build a garden from the ground (dirt) up. Club members learned and practiced the ins and outs of small-scale, organic farming in a fun and relaxed environment. By lining the bottoms of garden beds with newspaper and using composted soil made entirely from household kitchen scraps, members were able to engage in sustainable gardening practices. Additionally, members learned about soil geomorphology when assessing and adjusting the soil composition of the garden beds. Students planted all organic varieties of sweet peppers, carrots, radishes, beets, kale, lettuce, onions, aloe vera, garlic, basil, and mint.
