Powering Utilities Through GIS Innovation

Trey Price graduated from the University of North Texas in December 2007 with a B.S. in Geography. He is now a Senior Project Manager and Consultant with ESRI, where he helps electric and gas utilities across the world implement new geospatial technologies and develop strategies for managing large-scale infrastructure.

During his nearly five years at ESRI, Trey has worked with organizations of every size, from local cooperatives to major international utilities. His work involves helping clients adopt tools such as ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Field Maps, and the Utility Network, while crafting geospatial strategies that improve operations, safety, and data-driven planning.

Trey’s projects have taken him around the world, from Oslo, Norway, to Alexandria, Louisiana, supporting teams as they modernize their systems and integrate GIS into daily decision-making.

From North Texas to the World

Before joining ESRI, Trey spent a decade working in GIS roles with electric and gas utility cooperatives and municipal organizations across North Texas. That hands-on experience gave him the technical expertise and industry insight needed to guide global clients today.

He often credits his time at UNT for providing the strong foundation he still relies on. The combination of spatial analysis, environmental awareness, and applied problem-solving gave him the skills to thrive in a field where geography and technology come together.

Staying Rooted in Denton

Although his work takes him around the globe, Trey continues to live and work from home in Denton, Texas, staying close to the community that shaped him. Outside of work, he can often be found playing surf rock music with his band, The Denton Tarantinos, spending time on the Denton Square with his wife and dog, or cheering on the Mean Green at UNT basketball games.

From the classrooms of UNT to international consulting projects, Trey Price demonstrates how a geography degree can build a career that connects innovation, infrastructure, and people while staying true to his Denton roots.
