Your Map Questions, Answered

From how pins work to privacy concerns, find the info you need to participate with confidence. We’ve compiled answers to help you navigate the map, claim your pin, and share your story.
Who can add a pin to the map?
Anyone who has earned a UNT Geography credential — including BA, BS, MS, certificates, minors, etc. — is welcome to join. You’ll find alumni from a wide range of academic backgrounds represented on the map.
I completed coursework in UNT Geography but didn’t finish my degree. Can I still add a pin?
Absolutely. If you spent meaningful time in our program - whether through a certificate, minor, or a degree track you weren’t able to finish - you’re still part of the UNT Geography community. We’d love to include you on the map and celebrate the impact you’re making today.
I just graduated. When can I join the map?
We’ll reach out about one semester after Commencement, giving you time to settle into your career or relocate. Look for your invitation at the end of the following term!
How do I submit my pin?
Just click the Claim Your Pin button and fill out the quick form. Once we’ve verified your info, your pin will appear on the map within a week!
How is my information verified?
We cross‑check every submission with UNT’s alumni records, EIS system, and LinkedIn. If we can’t verify automatically, we’ll contact you directly for clarification.
Will my exact address ever be shown?
Never! Your privacy comes first. Pins only show your city, not your street or exact address.
Will alumni data ever be shared or sold?
Absolutely not. Participation is 100% opt‑in. Your info stays with the UNT Department of Geography & the Environment. We’ll never share or sell your data - promise.
Can I update my pin later?
Yes. Email geog@unt.edu with your changes, and we’ll update your pin promptly.
Can I have more than one pin?
Just one pin per alum - that way the map stays clear, accurate, and easy to explore.
I pursued additional degrees at another institution. Can I include that?
Yes! Feel free to include additional degrees in your optional Field Note. Your pin will always stay tied to your UNT Geography credential.
How do I filter the map by graduation decade?
Click the side arrow in the top‑left of the map to open the Layers menu. Then toggle graduation‑decade layers (e.g., 1970s, 1980s, 1990s) on or off.
What happens if I press the full‑screen button on mobile?
On most phones, tapping full‑screen will open the map in the Google Maps app. If you choose to save it, it will remain there until you remove it. To delete it later, open the app and go to: You → Maps → “Where in the World Are Our Alumni?” → View Map Legend → Close.
What if my pin doesn’t appear or I have a technical issue?
If it’s been more than one week since submission, refresh the page. If your pin still doesn’t appear, email geog@unt.edu with details or a screenshot, and we’ll assist as soon as possible.

To ensure all Mean Green Geographers can explore this project, we’ve created a text‑based Accessible Alumni List (PDF).
It provides an alphabetical listing of everyone featured on the Alumni Map in a screen‑reader friendly format.

This list includes only the same public information displayed on the map. No personal contact details or private data are shared.
