Steve Wolverton, Matthew Fry and Lisa Nagaoka, professors in the Department of Geography at UNT began research in Mendoza, Argentina, this winter and were featured in a major state newspaper. In collaboration with colleagues from the Natural History Museum of San Rafael, the team plans to study how humans have shaped the cultural landscape through diverse land use practices: hunting and gathering, low-intensity agriculture, and pastoralism. In addition, the lengthy record of human occupation in this region will allow the team to study how people have adapted to several periods of climate change.
This research is being supported by the Charn Uswachoke International Development Fund Award and a Research Opportunity Program (ROP) award.
