Ten UNT students attended and presented at the 2022 Southwestern Division of the American Association of Geographers (SWAAG) Conference in Fayetteville, Arkansas from October 27-28th, and several won awards in the student competitions. For the Graduate Student Paper Competition, Kaitlin Stewart won second place for her paper "How Receiving Communities Structure Refugee Settlement Experiences: The Case of Burmese Immigrants in DFW". Marissa Greer and Noah Ray tied for third place for their papers, "Renewable Energy in DFW: Access, Distribution, and Equity" and "Quantifying Seasonality and Vertical Dispersion of PM2.5 Using a Mobile Monitoring Approach." In the Undergraduate Poster Competition, Sarah Pettyjohn won first place for her poster "How Does Sediment Grain Size Decrease as Rocks are Transported Within the Flowing Water of a River?", and in the Graduate Poster Competition, Savannah Thomas won second place for her presentation, entitled "Tiny Water Droplets Hint at Tree Species' Capacity to Filter Air Pollution at a Dallas Elementary School." Finally, in the Geo Bowl, Noah Ray won third place in the individual competition. Other presenters at SWAAG included graduate students Ashley Green and John South and undergraduates Cody Kimpton, Rylee Babino, and Evangeline Dwelle. We want to recognize Brand Richter, Geography BS major, for winning the Green Source DFW "Next Generation" Sustainable Leadership Award! This is a very prestigious honor from one of the leading environmental publications in North Texas. Brand's CV stretches across disciplines from Geography to Biology, and he has done work with the City of Denton as well as many professors across UNT. Congratulations Brand!
