New faculty member Waquar Ahmed publishes an article in the journal Antipode.
The UNT Department of Geography welcomes our newest faculty member, Waquar Ahmed.
Waquar Ahmed recently published a new article in the journal Antipode. This article entitled "From Militant Particularism to Anti-neoliberalism? The Anti-Enron Movement in India" examines how, and if at all, local environmental movements can grow and challenge global corporations that tend to exploit local environments and communities. This article focuses on the anti-Enron Movement in India that brought together environmental activists, labor unions, farmers, fisher-folk and several others to oppose Enron's power plant. This movement had tremendous ramifications for the local community and national (socio-economic) significance for India.
