Martin Aucoin receives undergraduate ethnobiologist award

The Society of Ethnobiology has awarded Martin Aucoin the undergraduate ethnobiologist award. To earn this distinction, Martin wrote an essay about his experiences at the Fort Apache Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) summer program (where he worked on traditional land use) and his current undergraduate thesis on local food systems in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Martin also outlined a plan to increase undergraduate student involvement in the society through the organization of student-oriented sessions at society conferences. The aim of these sessions would be to encourage research and internships and solicit student submissions to the society's publications, including the Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnobiology Letters. Martin will travel to Cherokee, North Carolina, in May 2014 to attend the annual Society of Ethnobiology conference and will serve as a student representative on the Society's board of advisors.
